Landscaping and Zoo-ing

Saturday night, we were sitting around after the cupcake sale, and we somehow decided that Sunday afternoon would be dedicated to landscaping most of our front yard.

I don't know how that happened.
But it seemed like a good idea at the time.

So we bought plants.

And seeds.
And while the boys napped, Michael and I shoveled and raked clear an area.
Then the boys woke up.  And things got a little sketchy.  Because a 4-year-old and a 17-month old just don't need to be running around near the street.
But we proceeded on, because gosh, I was going to get that thing done.  That day.
Four hours later, I did.
That red yucky woodchip-ishness is going away.  And the red bricks are demarcating where a stone stepping path will go (to my blueberry bushes!)

It was finished.

So we came inside.  Where I was greeted by scary Larry hanging by his hair.
Not sure why.
Or which boy put him there.
Or why he's naked.
It just is what it is.
Then Michael went and cooked me a couple of these amazing egg sandwiches with bacon butter and green onions.  I should write a whole post about bacon butter.
Michael and I were exhausted and solved that by eating ice cream from a local farm and watching many episodes of River Cottage, one of our favorite shows.

This morning, I woke up with renewed energy and decided to take the boys to the zoo.

It was the right choice, for once.  Usually I think it's a good idea and it turns out very wrong.  But today, it was perfect.  The boys liked getting outside but also the very individualized time with Mama.  And it was glorious.  We had the zoo to ourselves.

Until 100 fourth graders descended on the zoo and did a moving rendition of "What Does the Fox Say?" next to the fox cage.
